Frequently asked questions

Can I route SuperMAC via a standard Ethernet switch or hub?

No, SuperMAC and HyperMAC are ultra low-latency connection systems, with very small data buffers and system latencies much lower than the frame duration. Since standard Ethernet switches buffer entire frames and may feature unpredictable latencies, they are not suitable for the transfer of SuperMAC or HyperMAC data. In addition, standard Ethernet devices do not support SuperMAC’s use of separate signal pairs for audio data and clock in Cat 5/Cat 5e cable.
